X-VOCS Wins Asphalt Contractor 2025 Top 30 Editor’s Choice Award

Asphalt Contractor, the nationally recognized magazine serving asphalt contractors and producers, has named X-VOCS by the Blue Smoke Control division of Butler-Justice Inc. a Top 30 Editor’s Choice award winner.

Asphalt Contractor’s Top 30 Editor’s Choice award represents the asphalt industry’s best products gaining interest from end-users and asphalt professionals alike. The awarded products, exhibiting innovation and utility, were chosen based on submitted nominations and audience engagement during a 12-month period on ForConstructionPros.com, and narrowed down by the editorial team and advisory board.

X-VOCS is Butler-Justice’s newest system for eradicating odor-causing emissions produced as a byproduct during hot-mix asphalt production. Invisible emissions from plants — specifically, the odor-causing volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that reside in hot asphalt storage tanks — can create a number of challenges for producers, ranging from regulatory requirements to overt opposition from neighbors.

  • The X-VOCS System features proprietary carbon absorption technology designed to filter and remove up to 99 percent of odors and VOCs, such as Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S), from tanks
  • X-VOCS incorporates a five-stage filtration system. In the first three stages, a series of filters remove more than 95 percent of targeted particulates down to 0.3 microns. In the final two stages, carbon filtration beds remove remaining odors and volatiles

“Every year hundreds of new and innovative products are brought to market by the biggest and most reliable companies in the road building industry.” said Brandon Noel, Editor, Asphalt Contractor. “This list represents a handful of the most standout tools and equipment to recently impact the jobsite, as well as some legacy products that deserve to be recognized for their long-term contributions to the industry.”
